Tibshelf Girls  0 – 2  Carr Vale Angels

Derbyshire Girls League U14’s Cup Final  4th May 2006

A good sized crowd was gathered in the sunshine at the home of Matlock Town FC to watch the last of this evening’s Derbyshire League Cup Finals.

The Angels came into this game full of confidence having already won the league title two weeks earlier.

The early exchanges were even as both teams tried to settle into the game. Carr Vale gradually gained the upper hand and started to create some chances to score. Wall took a long throw from the right for Owen to flick on; the ball fell to Alton who deftly sidestepped the defender to fire in a shot that flew just wide of the right hand post. The Angels were now getting their passing game together and causing the Tibshelf defence all sorts of problems. A flowing move involving Wall, Walker, Alton and Owen created space for Mapley to cut in from the left and shoot. The Tibshelf keeper made a save but was unable to hold onto the ball. Mapley was first to react and dragged the ball left before firing into the net from a tight angle. Tibshelf upped the pace and pressed forward more but Whybrow, Evill and Whitaker in the Angels defence were outstanding and restricted the Tibshelf players to long range efforts which Gascoyne in goal dealt with comfortably.

The Angels started the second half under pressure when Tibshelf won a corner. The kick was cleared to Owen who quickly turned defence into attack when she set Mapley free on the left. Mapley swept past two players before finding Alton with a pinpoint cross to strike a sweet shot from 18yds which the keeper did well to save. Gradually the Angels pushed forward more and more as the impressive midfield of Wall, Owen and Mapley started to dominate the game. From a Tibshelf throw on the half way line Owen won a header to power the ball forward. Excellent work by the hardworking Linacre and Walker forced the defender to concede a corner. As the ball came over Gore skillfully found space for a shot only to see it deflected wide for another corner. Wall put the ball in the danger area from the kick and as the Tibshelf defenders struggled to clear the ball in ran Owen to fire home.

A tremendous effort by all the team to overcome a strong and well organized Tibshelf side

Congratulations girls for winning the league and cup double.

29th April 2006       Bakewell  1 – 5  Carr Vale Angels

Today’s game, played on a bone hard pitch would decide who progressed to this year’s cup final. The Angels had not played for three weeks, and took a while to get into the game. Bakewell on the other hand started at a cracking pace and were soon forcing the Angels back into their own half. Gascoyne in goal was called upon to make a number of saves in the opening ten minutes. Gradually The Angels defensive pair of Whybrow and Evill started to get the better of Bakewell’s forwards and this provided the platform for Carr Vale to mount their own attacks. Alton and Mapley were starting to cause Bakewell problems down the flanks and when Mapley got clear the keeper did well to tip the shot around the post. From the kick Owen knocked the ball into the danger area where Mapley found space to strike on goal, the shot was blocked but Alton was on hand to poke the ball home .Bakewell came back strongly when the winger got free to cross into the box, but fortunately for the Angels the forward was unable to convert the chance. Carr Vale pushed forward again with Wall and Mapley linking up well to create space for Owen to shoot. As a long clearance by Gascoyne bounced over the Bakewell defence Gore was first to react and smashed a shot goalbound from 20 yds only to see the keeper save with her knee. Gascoyne again started an attack with her long throw out to Owen on the half way line, Owen turned and played a lovely pass between the defenders for Mapley to run onto and slide the ball past the advancing keeper.

The second half started as the first had finished with the Angels pushing forward. Linacre and Whitaker combined to find Walker in space but her shot was blocked. Owen picked the ball up in midfield and found Alton on the wing, she skipped past two players and crossed for Mapley to score her second. Bakewell again responded positively and mounted a series of attacks going closer all the time. They were rewarded when a shot from the edge of the area took a cruel deflection and bounced into the corner of the goal. The hard ground was taking its toll on both keepers and Gascoyne was forced out of the game with a knee injury, Wall replaced her in goal. The Angels were having more success on the wings and scored two almost identical goals late on when Alton put in pin point crosses for Mapley to score at the back post

The Angels now look forward to the final against Tibshelf Girls on Thursday 4th May at Matlock Town’s ground, kick off 8pm.

8th April 2006      Wirksworth  2 – 6  Carr Vale Angels

On a very cold windy morning the Angels faced Wirksworth in the penultimate league game of the season looking for the win that would confirm them as league champions. Straight from the kick off Carr Vale were on the attack with Mapley, Alton, Owen and Walker all forcing good saves from the Wirksworth keeper. The breakthrough came when Owen scored following blocked shots from Mapley & Walker. There followed a period of frustration for the Angels as Wirksworth defended strongly to avoid conceding any more goals. As Wirksworth came more into the game they put together a passing move, which created space for the center forward to score from 18 yds. The Angels responded with Owen and Mapley having shots saved before Gore found the net from close range.

The second half started with the Angels in the ascendancy with Wall and Whitaker both going close. Whybrow and Evill in defence were playing with confidence and linking up well with Linacre and Wall in midfield. As Wirksworth started to tire the Angels took advantage with some lovely passing moves. Gascoyne in goal passed the ball to Wall who linked up with Whitaker and Owen to find Mapley in space only to see the keeper make a fine save at the near post. The third goal came when Alton controlled a poor Wirksworth goal kick skipped past a couple of tackles and calmly slotted the ball beyond the reach of the keeper. Owen was dominating the midfield and she was involved in the build up to the next goal with Evill, Wall, Mapley and Linacre cutting through the Wirksworth defence to give Mapley the chance to strike right footed high into the net. With the game won the Angels still pressed forward looking for more goals and they were rewarded when both Walker and Alton found the net. The Wirksworth players showed great attitude in not letting their heads drop and they were rewarded when their center forward went on a mazy run before finding the net for a consolation goal. The final whistle blew to confirm the Angels as this seasons league champions.

1st April 2006      Carr Vale Angels  9 - 1 Buxton Warriors

Today’s cup quarter final clash brought together the leagues top two teams.

The Angels were back to full strength with Walker, Alton and Owen all returning to the action. The game was barely a minute old when the Angels scored their first goal. A throw in down the line by Linacre found Alton who turned and ran at the defence evading all tackles before setting up Mapley to score in the bottom corner. The second soon followed, Owen controlled a long kick from the Buxton keeper before laying the ball off to start a lovely passing move involving Whybrow, Linacre and Alton to create space for Alton to score. Buxton were stung into action and pressed forward looking for an opening. Their forwards worked well together to create a chance but Gascoyne was there to make a double save and keep them out. The Angels started to get their passing game together and the chances came thick and fast with Mapley, Walker, and Whitaker all going close and Owen hitting the bar. Alton was causing all sorts of problems for the Buxton defence and she was involved in a passing move with Wall and Whitaker to create space for Mapley to strike an unstoppable shot into the far corner. All credit to the Buxton girls who tried to break into attack whenever possible. One such breakaway led to a Buxton forward finding space on the edge of the box to hit a great shot into the top corner. The Angels responded almost immediately, Owen tackled strongly in midfield and then found Alton on the wing with a defence splitting pass, Alton’s first time cross was met by Walker whose early shot caught the keeper by surprise for goal number four. In an almost identical move Walker scored again but this time Wall made the tackle and set up Alton. As half time approached Alton controlled a poor Buxton goal kick skipped past a couple of tackles and calmly slotted the ball beyond the reach of the keeper. There was no stopping the Angels who were looking for more goals at every opportunity. Evill released Owen to cross to Mapley whose shot was blocked but Owen cut in to fire home the rebound. Owen was again involved linking up with Linacre to release Alton to score. As the game was coming to a close the Buxton keeper dropped a cross at the feet of Linacre who made no mistake from close range.

A great game to watch girls, your best footballing performance for some time.

25th March    Buxton Wanderers U14’s  1-6  Carr Vale Angels U14

Carr Vale played today’s game without a full team, the squad being decimated by illness and injury. But this did not deter the girls and they were soon pushing towards the Buxton goal. Both Whitaker and Gore went close before Mapley fired a shot from 25yds, which just skimmed the wrong side of the post. The breakthrough came when Wall scored with a low shot into the corner of the goal, following a strong run and cross from Mapley. Wanderers were soon back on level terms when they counter attacked quickly and created space for the forward to score past the diving Gascoyne. That was the last Buxton saw of the Angels goal as Whybrow and Evill combined to not only snuff out any hint of an attacking threat from Buxton but also showed great skill and technique with their intelligent distribution. The second goal came when a flowing passing move involving Linacre, Wall and Whitaker created space for the latter to shoot. The keeper made a fine save but Gore was on hand to score her first goal for the club. The Angels were now pressing hard and forced a number of corners which Wall took with increasing accuracy, culminating with the Buxton keeper punching into her own net. Mapley and Gore again went close before another corner from Wall found the back of the net directly from the kick. With half time approaching Mapley and Linacre linked up well to find Gore who skipped past two defenders before crossing into the danger area. Whittaker timed her run to perfection to strike left footed beyond the diving keeper. As the second half started it was clear that Buxton were more concerned to not concede any more goals than they were about scoring. The packed defence proved very difficult to penetrate. Mapley came closest to scoring but her shots were either saved or deflected clear. In an effort to create an opening the Angels moved the ball back and forth across the pitch with an excellent display of passing football. Wall, Whybrow, Linacre, Gore and Whitaker were all involved in creating space for Mapley to shoot, but again the keeper was there to push the ball away for a corner. As the kick came over from Wall, Mapley found space to control the ball and score from close range.

Well-done girls, a very good team performance today.

18th March   Ripley Girls U14’s  2-4  Carr Vale Angels U14

The Angels were soon into their stride on a cold windy morning. Owen was unlucky not to score in the first five minutes when first her snap shot was deflected for a corner and then when she thundered the ball goalbound from 20yards only to see it shave the wrong side of the post with the keeper beaten. New signing Gore came on midway through the half and was soon involved in the play linking up well with Whitaker to create space for Mapley to get a shot on target. The Ripley defence was holding firm but they were undone when Whybrow knocked the ball forward towards Alton, she did a clever step over to let the ball run through to the unmarked Owen who calmly scored from a tight angle. The Angels were now dominating the game and Owen nearly scored a second but her free kick was well saved by the Ripley keeper. Carr Vale did score again when Whitaker beat the keeper to the ball at the near post following an Owen corner. It was soon three when another accurate corner from Owen found Mapley at the back post to tap in from close range.

Ripley started the second half in determined mood and were soon on the attack. It wasn’t long before they pulled a goal back when a forward toe poked the ball past the unsighted Gascoyne. With both sides looking for more goals the keepers were kept busy, especially Gascoyne who at one point had to dive full length to prevent a shot creeping inside the post. Walker and Evill had to be alert to contain the skilful Ripley forwards. With five minutes left the Angels went further ahead. Linacre and Wall combined well to find Alton; she beat one player before drawing the keeper and slotting the ball neatly into the bottom corner. Ripley were not done yet and pressed forward in search of a goal. They were rewarded when their number nine found space to score from 6yds. This win puts the Angels 3 points clear at the top of the table with three games to play.

11th March     Carr Vale Angels U14  5-0  Ripley Girls U14’s

Straight from the kick off it was one-way traffic with the Angels forcing the pace. Owen, Alton, Mapley, Walker and Linacre all went close in the opening fifteen minutes. With the Angels enjoying so much possession it was just a question of when they would get the break through. The first goal finally came from one of the many accurate corners taken by Owen when Mapley rose at the back post to thump a header into the net. Another chance soon followed when Wall’s shot was deflected wide by a Ripley defender, Mapley collected the ball on the wing and jinked past the full back before whipping a cross into the danger area where the Ripley defender put through her own net as a result of strong pressure by Evill.

Ripley started the second half brightly and Gascoyne in the Carr Vale goal was called upon to save well at the feet of the forward. This proved to be a rare sight of goal as Whybrow and Walker did well to contain the lively Ripley forwards. The Angels went further ahead five minutes into the second half. Alton picked her way past a couple of tackles on the right wing before a defender managed to get the ball clear. From the resulting corner Mapley scored an identical goal to her first half effort when she headed in at the back post. Chances were coming thick and fast and only some excellent saves from the Ripley keeper prevented the Angels scoring more. Ripley were struggling to contain the Angels midfield. Wall, Owen and Mapley linked up well to set up Alton to drill the ball past the advancing keeper. A fine team display was rounded off when Alton controlled a long clearance from Gascoyne before laying the ball into the path of Owen to score a stunning goal from 25 yds.

25th February    Bakewell Girls U14  0 – 7  Carr Vale Angels U14

The game started evenly with neither team creating a clear sight of goal mainly down to Whybrow and Evill who were more than a match for the Bakewell forwards. Gradually the Angels began to get on top as both Mapley and Alton went close before Owen crashed a shot against the bar. The breakthrough came when Owen controlled a poor goal kick then set up Mapley to score low in the bottom corner. It was all one-way traffic now and the Angels went further ahead when Walker stabbed the ball home from close range following a corner. A minute later another corner was cleared but Owen was there to curl the ball into the top corner from 20yds. The Angels went further ahead almost immediately when Alton beat two defenders before calmly passing the ball past the advancing keeper. As half time approached Linacre, Owen and Whitaker linked up well to create space for Alton to score.

Bakewell came out after the break in determined mood and the second half was a much more even contest. Wall was winning the midfield battle, which forced Bakewell to play a long ball game. Gascoyne in goal snuffed out any threat by Bakewell, twice diving bravely at the feet of onrushing forwards. The opposition keeper made some fine saves particularly from Whitaker, but was unable to stop Owen as she burst into the box and fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. The Angels capped a very good team performance when Whitaker passed to Alton 12 yards out who turned and placed the ball wide of the diving keeper for goal number 7.

18th February           Buxton Warriors U14  2 – 4  Carr Vale Angels U14

The Angels had a great start to today’s game scoring in the first minute. Owen played in Alton whose cross found Mapley in space to drive the ball home from 12 yards.

Buxton were spurred into life and pushed forward in search of the equaliser but the Carr Vale defence of Whitaker, Whybrow and Evill prevented any clear goalscoring opportunities. As the half wore on the Angels started to gain the upper hand and were rewarded with a second goal. Mapley beat two players on the left before crossing a lovely ball into the goalmouth where Buxton were unfortunate to see the ball go in off a defender. A third goal soon followed when Linacre, Owen and Wall cut open the Warriors defence to create space for Mapley to score low in the corner. Just before half time a Buxton forward broke free of her marker and hit a goal bound shot, but Gascoyne pulled off a great save diving full stretch to her right.

Buxton started the second half in determined mood and were soon putting the Angels under a period of constant pressure. A goal seemed inevitable and sure enough the Warriors scored. Gascoyne saved a shot following a corner but was helpless as the Buxton forward crashed in the rebound. This spurred on the Warriors even more and the Angels were struggling to get the ball out their own half. A Buxton forward went on a strong run and was only stopped when she was fouled in the box. The resulting penalty was despatched into the top corner giving Gascoyne no chance. At last the Carr Vale players began to assert themselves with Alton proving a handful for the Buxton defence. She linked up well with Owen and Mapley for the latter to hit a goal bound shot that beat the goalie but was blocked on the line by a defender. Walker was first to react and scored from close range. Owen almost added a fifth goal but her 25-yard free kick was deflected wide.

Another win for the Angels, which takes them back to the top of the league.

4th February                 Ripley Girls U14  0 – 8  Carr Vale Angels U14

Ripley started the game but Carr Vale soon gained possession and started to push forward. It was ten minutes before the first goal came from Walker who turned and shot past the keeper following a run and pass by Mapley. Ripley tried to respond but Whybrow and Whitaker were comfortably in control. Good interplay between Owen and Mapley created space for Alton to cross for the unmarked Walker to smash the ball high into the net. With the Angels dominating play more goals were inevitable. Alton found space in the box to shoot only to see the Ripley keeper make a fine save and push the ball onto the post, Walker was first to react to complete her hat trick. The fourth goal was not far behind, one of the many accurate corners from Owen was finally converted when Mapley shot left footed through a crowded goalmouth. Ripley finally managed to create space for a shot at goal but new signing Gascoyne made a great save to keep the ball out. With half time approaching Mapley went on a mazy run down the wing before crossing into the danger area. Unfortunately for Ripley a defender deflected the ball into her own net.

At half time Owen was substituted following a painful injury. Wall moved into centre midfield with Linacre on the right. There was no relief for Ripley as the Angels continued to create chances. Alton took a quick throw in to find Mapley twenty yards out, Mapley soon found space to shoot only to see her effort shave the wrong side of the post. The only threat from Ripley was with their tricky right-winger but Evill was having an excellent game to keep her in check. Owen came back on for Walker and was soon in the thick of the action. Good work by Wall, Mapley and Alton saw the ball played into the box where Owen was first to react to steer the ball home. Owen scored her second after a shot from Alton was well saved by the Ripley keeper. Whitaker wrapped up the scoring with a well-taken goal from twelve yards out.

A very good team performance today, well-done girls.

21st January              Carr Vale Angels U14   5 – 2   Wirksworth  Girls U14

Just a couple of weeks ago these two teams played a closely fought match. Unfortunately today was a different affair, as Wirksworth were unable to field a full strength team. Inevitably the Angels were on the attack immediately forcing a good save from the keeper. The first goal came when Whybrow passed up field to Owen who linked up well with Alton and Mapley before scoring. Whitaker and Linacre were winning everything in midfield and supporting the attack as the Angels dominated the game. Mapley made a strong run down the left before cutting inside to shoot, the ball came back of a post to Alton who saw her shot well saved by the Wirksworth keeper. Wall played a ball out to Evill who released Alton on the right; her run took her past three defenders before she beat the goalkeeper at the near post for the second goal. With half time approaching Mapley controlled a poor goal kick and set up Alton to score number three.

Wirksworth started the second half in determined mood and were rewarded with a goal after five minutes. The Angels responded with Walker, Owen and Mapley exchanging passes on the left to set up Alton to score in the bottom corner. This was soon followed by the fifth goal; Owen took a quick throw in to find Alton in space, her shot was well saved by the excellent Wirksworth keeper but Mapley was following up and made no mistake from the rebound. The Wirksworth players never gave up and scored a second goal in the last minute.

14th January                   Buxton Warriors U14   2 – 10  Carr Vale Angels U14

As the game got underway both sides looked to be evenly matched but that was soon to change. The Angels made a change to their usual formation, with just two defenders Whybrow and Walker, Whitaker moved into the central midfield role. These three players were outstanding throughout the match and provided a strong foundation to the rest of the team. Carr Vale scored the first goal after 12 minutes. Wall’s long clearance found Owen who beat two defenders before setting up Alton to score. Buxton tried to come back but the defence matched everything that was thrown at them and Wall in goal dominated the 18-yard box. The second goal soon followed, Mapley and Alton linked up well before laying the ball back to Owen to score from the edge of the box. Mapley made a strong run down the left wing and crossed to Linacre who scored from close range. Mapley who was having a lot of success on the left set up two more goals for Alton with her pinpoint crosses.

The Angels were playing with discipline, determination and delightful skill with each player on the top of their form. Carr Vale were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. Owen stepped up to score goal number six.

The second half started as the first had finished with the Angels scoring freely. A cross from Owen found Mapley in space to shoot, the shot was well saved by the keeper but Alton was on hand to tap in the rebound. A long clearance by Wall was misjudged by the defender to let Alton in on goal; she drew the keeper out before coolly passing the ball into the net. The ninth goal was again created by Mapley, this time her cross was controlled on the chest by Alton before she turned and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

Buxton made some changes as the Angels started to tire. Wall in goal was called upon to make a number of good saves as the Buxton forwards created some scoring opportunities. The pressure told as Buxton scored two consolation goals. The Angels were not done yet. A short corner was worked well between Mapley and Owen for the latter to find space to have a shot that was deflected into goal.

7th January                  Carr Vale Angels U14  4-5  Wirksworth Girls U 14

The first game of the New Year saw a highly entertaining match between two quality teams. The Angels were under pressure straight from the kick off as Wirksworth strung some lovely passing moves together. From one of these the winger made a strong run down the right before getting in a cross to the waiting forward at the back post to score. This seemed to spark the Angels into life as they started to have more of the play. A free kick by Owen from just inside the opponents half found Alton on the edge of the box, she turned and set up Mapley to score in the bottom corner. Wirksworth were soon in front again when an excellent defence splitting pass found the centre forward in space and she made no mistake past the diving Wall in goal.

The Angels started to control the game with Walker, Whybrow and Whitaker working as a unit to snuff out any threat from Wirksworth. With the pressure building Linacre found Alton, who beat a player before shooting. The keeper saved only to see Owen on hand to tap in the rebound. The Angels took the lead when Walker’s throw found Owen who turned and played a delightful ball up to Alton. She beat two players before firing into the bottom corner.

As the second half got under way Wirksworth stepped up the pace and quickly equalised. Angels responded with Alton beating the keeper only to see the ball come back of a post, Mapley was first to respond and struck her shot goal bound only to see the excellent Wirksworth keeper recover to tip the ball onto the bar and away for a corner. Wirksworth took the lead when their midfield player finished a strong run by firing past the diving Wall. The Angels came back strongly when again Alton beat the defence to shoot at goal, the Wirksworth keeper made the save of the match as she dived full length to keep the ball out. Wirksworth extended their lead following a good passing move, which created space for the winger to score. Carr Vale were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Owen stepped up and went for goal, again the Wirksworth keeper made a great save at the foot of the post. The final goal of the game went to the Angels; Whitaker’s shot was cleared to Linacre who found Alton in space to score through a crowded goalmouth.

This was by far the best game we have seen this season and it was a shame one team had to lose. This match was an excellent advert for girl’s football.

17th December              Carr Vale Angels U14  4-2  Bakewell Girls U 14

There was some doubt whether this fixture would be played due to a frosty pitch, but the referee inspected it and decided the match could go ahead.

The Angels were soon into their stride looking to bounce back after last weeks defeat, strong running down the right by Linacre created space for Alton whose shot was well saved by the Bakewell keeper. The first goal soon followed, Wall in goal threw a long ball out to Owen who controlled it and turned in one movement to get away from an opponent, she then ran half the length of the pitch outpacing the defence before slotting home in the bottom corner. A long clearance by Wall found Alton who beat the defender and shot first time only to see her effort rebound of a post. Bakewell responded by creating a good chance for the forward but Whitaker recovered quickly to get the ball to safety. A flowing move involving Walker, Linacre and Owen created space for Mapley to strike at goal, the keeper saved only to see the ball rebound off the knee of Owen and into the net. The Angels were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal; Owen stepped up and struck the ball with pace towards the top corner, the Bakewell keeper flew across her goal and made a brilliant save pushing the ball over the bar for a corner. From the kick Mapley found space in the box to head home for 3-0. Bakewell had not given up yet and from a corner pulled a goal back when their player of the match fired in from 12 yards. Carr Vale came straight back as Alton collected another long kick from Wall, beat two players and found Owen in space who passed first time for Mapley to run onto and hit the ball high into the net.

The second half saw Bakewell start to press forward more and they were rewarded when a good passing move found the centre forward in space to score past the diving Wall. To combat the increased pressure from Bakewell the Angels went to a back three. This proved decisive as Walker, Linacre and the ever improving Whitaker kept Bakewell at bay with timely interceptions and strong tackling. Late on the Angels were awarded a penalty when Alton was brought down, but unfortunately the kick flashed past the wrong side of the post.

Well played girls an excellent team performance.

10th December               Buxton Warriors U14   5 – 1   Carr Vale Angels U14

Carr Vale Angels started the match knowing it was going to be tough with two players short.

As the game got underway there was little between the teams. Buxton had more of the possession but were unable to create any openings against the strong defensive pair of Whybrow and Linacre. The midfield trio of Mapley, Owen and Whitaker worked very hard throughout the first half to more than match the Buxton Girls. A spell of Carr Vale pressure led to a corner, which Owen flighted perfectly into the danger area, but unfortunately no one could get a touch to score. Midway through the half Buxton passed the ball from front to back to create an easy chance for the centre forward to score. The Angels responded immediately with a strong run by Owen past two players, only to see her shot cleared off the line by a defender. Walker playing up front on her own was proving a handful for the three defenders marking her. The equaliser came following a poor goal kick; Mapley was quicker to the ball than the Buxton player and played a lovely ball into the path of Owen who took on three players before firing home in the bottom corner.

As the second half got underway there was a taste of things to come as Buxton started to create good goal scoring opportunities. Wall in goal pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the score even. Buxton were not having everything their own way with Walker, Linacre and Mapley linking up well to create shooting opportunities. With ten minutes to go the Angels were starting to struggle and inevitably Buxton took the lead as the defenders were outnumbered. Buxton continued to press and scored three more goals.

An outstanding performance today by all seven players, they played some good football and working tirelessly for the whole match.

26th November              Carr Vale Angels U14’s

The Angels arrived for their match only to find that the opposition had failed to turn up. Fortunately all was not lost as two other teams agreed to play a round robin of short duration matches.

The first game saw the Angels play Wirksworth Girls. Straight from the kick off Wirksworth were in control with some great passing. Poor positional play by the Angels allowed Wirksworth to create chance after chance. Two of these chances were converted with the centre forward virtually walking the ball into the net. The Angels only had one shot at goal and that was well saved by the Wirksworth keeper diving low to her left.

Buxton Wanderers were the opponents for the second game. The Angels were still struggling to find their form and found Wirksworth hard to contain at times. Only in the last five minutes were Carr Vale able to take the upper hand as they started to expose space on the flanks. This pressure brought a well-worked goal for the Angels to win 1-0.

Today’s performance was the worst of the season by far. The Angels will have to improve greatly if they are to challenge for honours this season.

12th November     Carr Vale Angels U14  19 – 0  Buxton Wanderers U14

The 'Angels' started this game knowing a win over 'Buxton Wanderers' would
take them to the top of the league. Kicking off with one player short meant
that Linacre had to drop into defence and Walker playing as a lone striker. Vale
started at a high tempo with the midfield trio 'Alton Own and Mapley'
running at the Wanderers defence and shooting on sight. After only two
minutes Alton powered in from the right to shoot past the keeper. On the
next attack Owen fed Mapley on the left who beat two defenders and stroked
the ball in for two nil. Walker scored the third with a fine piece of skill,
controlling a chest high cross superbly before turning with the ball and firing a shot low into the bottom corner form 8 yards.

Chances were being made on every attack, and Alton soon completed her hat trick with two more powerful shots. Mapley scored her second after a fine run down the left wing. Owen then hit a great shot into the top corner. Carr Vale ended the first half 8-0 up after a Wanderers own goal.
As the second half got under way any hope the Wanderers had that the Angels would drop the pace were soon dispelled Within 30 seconds
